I am building a Bus tracking tool for my University - CodinGuru 5.0

Previously, I wrote a post about my participation in a website competition. The duration of the competition was 2 days. This was a website challenge where each team has to make MVP of any problem that you or other people are facing and you think you can solve that problem by creating a website.

The first day was just a brainstorming session where we introduced ourselves to other players, thinking of the problem, and finding the solution to the problem. While the second day was for completing the product & presenting the final MVP to the investors.

Technologies:

I used REACT JS as the front end & Firebase as the backend to make the web app.

Making of Website:

Just before presenting the website, I tested the website and the map is not working in the production. I searched for a solution and found I have to downgrade a package. I did it but after doing it, the Website stopped working :-( I tried very hard to get back the previous version. Before 5 minutes, the website started working itself & still didn't get how it works :-) Then we presented it to investors. They told me to present the idea in 3 minutes after that they asked some questions about the failure of the system, business model of the website & other questions.

When I was coding the idea, I was writing my thoughts & documenting the journey in a separate article. I will share it if I will ready to :-)

I will complete this project & my friends will make the app for this website & we will upload it to the internet so that students can use it.

Learnings:

  1. The idea matters more than the technologies used to make it.

  2. Coding the idea is one skill. Presenting it to others is another.

  3. Building a product for the usage of users is more complicated than a hobby project.

  4. Think of all things that can fail your system and think about solutions of that failures.

  5. Make sure to plan how you will complete the project before starting to code the app.

These were some moments of the competition that was captured. Sorry for some blurry images, I will take good photos in later posts :-)

PS. The coffee was amazing. I loved it :-)

See you at the next one :-)

Share it with your friends.
